The Haab, or vague year, is a 365 day period. It consists of 18 months of 20 days each, followed by one 5 day period (Wayeb). The Maya were aware that this was short of an actual year by approximately a quarter day, but this did not concern them. The month names varied in the various Mayan dialects. The Yukatek Mayan months are shown below. Pohp Wo Sip Sotz' Tzek Xul Yaxk'in Mol Ch'en Yax Sak Keh Mak K'ank'in Muwan Pax K'ayab Kumk'u Wayeb The Haab combined with the Tzolk'in forms the Calendar Round. |
